WATCH: Man attempts to burn police vehicles

The Philadelphia Police are seeking help from the public after a man allegedly attempted to burn law enforcement vehicles in a Streets Department garage in the city’s Kingsessing neighborhood.

Police have shared the video in the hopes of finding out the identity of the man seen in the footage:

According to police, the incident occurred on Wednesday, Aug. 9, at about 4:17 a.m., when a male could be spotted on surveillance video entering a parking garage below the city’s 12th police district building. The building is also shared with the Fire Department’s Engine 40 firehouse and the Philadelphia Streets Department.

While in the garage, police said, the male saturated a sheet and other items with what law enforcement officials said was some sort of ignitable fluid, and he made a path toward vehicles in the garage.

Law enforcement officials said the arsonist targeted Streets Department vehicles as well as privately owned vehicles that belonged to personnel assigned to the targeted departments.

After setting up the fire trap, police said, the man then attempted to light the flammable-soaked items on fire.

Over the course of an hour, police said the man left and re-entered the garage six times. Then, about a half-hour after leaving the garage a final time, law enforcement officials said, the male was spotted on surveillance cameras covering his body with a bed sheet while pushing a baby stroller near the garage.

Police said a woman appeared and took the stroller before the male left the area.

Police describe the alleged attempted arsonist as an African American male with a thin build, about 35-40 years old with full facial hair.

According to police, the man may be homeless and may be known to frequent the area.
