Sometimes we all need a little inspiration for summertime fun and who better to inspire us than Philly’s top Instagram stars? We caught up with Cory Wade of “America’s Next Top Model,” guitar god Todd Pritchard and rockstar photographers Albert Lee and Phobymo, to find out what plans they had in store this summer. From outdoor concerts to “storming the Bastille” with Tastykakes, there’s no shortage of things to do in Philly.
The model, musician, and activist has appeared on numerous seasons of “America’s Next Top Model.” This summer he’s all about exploring his roots and spending time with friends by the water.
Spruce Street Harbor Park
May 7- September 25
“The Spruce Street Harbor Park is a great place for outdoor relaxation when the weather is right for it. Have a drink outside by the water on your own or with friends — what more could you ask for?”
BlackStar Film Festival
August 4-7, 2016
“The BlackStar Film Festival celebrates the work of exemplary black filmmakers in our hometown. Artist panels, film premiers, and workshops make this event an awe inspiring experience not to be missed.”
The virtuoso Philly-based guitar player has amassed a huge following on Instagram thanks to his tutorials and performance videos. This summer he’s all about outdoor concerts.
Reggae In The Park
“At the Mann Center on August 3rd, you can catch some sweet reggae bands like Steel Pulse and Matisyahu at the best summer venue.”
Mad Decent Block Party
“If electronic music is more your thing, get your fix while overlooking the river for Mad Decent Block Party at Festival Pier.”
Albert Lee aka Ur Philly Pal
Albert Lee is a proud native of the 215 who loves community building, eating without guilt and Instagram. His photos of Philly will make you love our city even more.
Storming of the Bastille
“I don’t know if Maria Antoinette ever said “Let them eat Tastykake” but I’m sure she would have enjoyed them just the same. I’m of course, referring to the annual Bastille Day Celebration at Eastern State Penitentiary. Hundreds of people take over Fairmount Ave as the Bearded Ladies recreate the “Storming of the Bastille” and you really haven’t lived until you get hit in the face with a butterscotch krimpet.”
Annual 2nd Street Festival
“Philly is proudly known as the “city of neighborhoods” and North Liberties proudly shows off theirs at the Annual 2nd Street Festival. It’s a family-friendly event filled with music, art, and yes, exorbitant amounts of food. Pardon me while I prep myself.”
Phobymo is a concert and portrait photographer from Philly. When she isn’t taking photos, you can find her hanging out with friends around the city, “eating unhealthy food or binge watching Netflix.”
“This year’s 9th annual Roots Picnic has an amazing line up that you won’t want to miss. Usher, Future, Willow Smith, DMX, Ibeyi, Lolawolf and fellow Cheltenham High School grad, Lil Dicky, all on the same stage? I’m there.”
Open Space Gallery
“If you’re looking to come out and support some local Philly artists and musicians, you should definitely checkout the art shows and events being held at Open Space Gallery this summer.”
