What to see, buy and eat at the 2nd Street Festival

GOP_2ndStreetFest1_0801 The 2nd Street Festival is taking over NoLibs on Sunday, from noon to 10 p.m.

Northern Liberties is getting in on the summertime block party action Sunday with the 2nd Street Festival. Put on by the Philadelphia Folksong Society, the shindig is a day of music, food and art. The music piece of it is free – and includes Banned Books and Weird Hot – so we already know you’re going. But be sure to bring your wallet, because you will definitely want to shop these food and apparel vendors.

Must-try foods

Mac Mart Cart
Mac ’n‘ cheese is already a beautiful thing, but the Mac Mart Cart takes it to a whole new level. Owner Marti Lieberman has a special stash of add-in ingredients that transform the cheesy pasta dish into a cheesesteak or entire barbecue.

Dapper Dog
It’s hard to miss the distinct stylings of artist Adam Smith on the side of the Dapper Dog truck. That should be your first clue that this is one crafty cart. Dogs are grilled and and available with a slew of topping options.

Brown Betty Dessert Boutique
Save room for a cupcake, or two. These decadent, fanciful desserts are reason enough to go to the festival.

Must-buy vendors

Frankadelphia
Show ’em where you’re from with original, Philly-themed graphic tees, including one of dear old Benny Franks himself. Make sure to cruise all the vendors, though, as there is no shortage of Philly pride shirts with clever images, phrases and fonts. Check out The Armadillo Club and Aphillyated, too.

Little Shop of Dresses
If you’re a bride-to-be you’ve got weddings on the brain. Luckily for you, you can come hang out with your friends, listen to free music and peep a few ideas for your “something new.” This West Girard boutique is stocked with gowns, accessories and handbags for you and your bridesmaids.

Mud & Maker
This is a shop in Pottsville, so make sure you do not miss them while they’re right here in your backyard. Check out the handmade pottery, rustic home pieces made from reclaimed materials and vibrant kitchen wares.
