Where to celebrate National Bourbon Day in Philadelphia

The Twisted Tail

June 14 is officially National Bourbon Day and Metro has the scoop on where to head to indulge to start your week off right. Whether it’s through cocktails, neats or even some brunch-time libations, there is something for everyone on the menu in the city.

MilkBoy Philly

MilkBoy is known for its musical ties and specialty shots but now the original location in Center City is celebrating National Bourbon Day with some deals to commemorate. MilkBoy is offering $2 off select bourbon all day on June 14 and imbibers and bourbon lovers can also indulge in cocktails to celebrate the special occasion. One of the venue’s most popular drinks featuring bourbon is the Pharmacist ($11) crafted with bourbon, pineapple, and honey for a “satisfyingly smooth drink.”

Red Owl Tavern

Down in Old City, Philadelphians looking to celebrate with a vast selection of bourbon can head to Red Owl Tavern this Monday. This National Bourbon Day, the Old City hotspot will be whipping up bourbon-forward libations including The Libertea ($15), called a perfect sipper to celebrate with. Prepared with mint green tea-infused Old Forester Bourbon, honey syrup, lemon juice, apricot liqueur, and egg white, garnished with angostura drops, lemon wheel, and a touch of mint sprig, guests can take their cocktail indoors or outdoors while there.

New Liberty Distillery

According to a release, the South Kensington craft distillery and home to award-winning spirit lines such as the revived heritage Kinsey brand, offers two “powerhouse bourbons meant to be enjoyed neat, on the rocks, or expertly mixed in a craft cocktail.” The Bloody Butcher Bourbon is a flaming blend of corn, barley, rye, then paired nicely with notes of milk chocolate, butter, leather and stone fruit on the palate, finishing with a dash of dry spice. Another Philly-favorite is the Kinsey Bourbon – warm and complex on the palate, infused with the notes of honeysuckle, toffee, unripe orange and grass culminating in a sweet spice for a finish.

The Twisted Tail

Diners normally flock to this Headhouse Square spot to check out some southern comfort in the form of food and music, so why not check out the libations as well? The Twisted Tail’s selections of bourbon have been called “exceptional” and they even use a few for some of their unique specialty cocktails: including the Cargo Plane ($13) composed of Orange Cardamom Bourbon, Lo-Fi Amaro, and a citrus touch. Guests can indulge in this drink and pair the spirit with some food and tunes to really celebrate the day.

Art in the Age

Although this spot isn’t officially open on National Bourbon Day, it’s holding an after-party of sorts for your tastebuds in the form of spirits. After June 14 has passed, Philadelphians can check out refreshing tipples like the classic Old Fashioned composed of New Liberty Distillery Kinsey Bourbon, Jack Rudy demerara syrup, and Dashfire J. Thomas decanter bitters. Another fan-favorite is the Kentucky Mule crafted with Kinsey Bourbon, Pickett’s medium spice ginger syrup, Bitter Housewife’s lime, and coriander, topped with seltzer.
