Woman’s Body Found in Schuylkill

A passerby found a body in the Schuylkill River near Hunting Park Avenue shortly before 3:45 p.m. today.

The location is about half a mile away from the Ferry Road intersection, where a woman slammed into a wall and plunged into the river last Thursday.

The Police Marine Unit is working on recovering the body, which appears to be that of a woman between 30 and 40 years of age.

Authorities are unsure if the body is that of the woman involved in the crash. They are awaiting the Medical Examiner’s results, which police hope will
provide clues about the woman’s identity and other aspects of the investigation.

Immediately after Thursday’s accident, witnesses saw the woman climb out of her car and scream for help before being swept away by the current.

Though the Marine Unit was unable to find the woman at the time, they pulled the 2008 Mercury Grand Marquis she had been driving from the water Thursday evening.
