Woman’s Body Found in Tow Yard Two Days After Drowning

Police discovered a woman’s body at a tow yard Friday two days after she became stuck in her waterlogged car, making her the first victim of Philadelphia’s flooding.

The woman, 27, was driving home late Wednesday when she became stuck in rising water near Musgrave and Haines streets, a low-lying area of Germantown prone to extensive flooding.

Her father, a Philadelphia police officer, filed a missing person’s report when the woman had not returned home by Thursday morning.

Patrol officers saw the woman’s Chrysler Pacifica SUV at Musgrave and Haines streets around 11:45 a.m. Friday and, thinking it was abandoned, had it towed.

Authorities at the tow yard found the woman’s body in the car’s rear seat. Police have chosen not to release her identity.
