Would-be Bank Robber Sabotaged by Poor Penmanship

A would-be bank robber may be richer today had he paid more attention in penmanship class.

Thomas J. Love, 40, allegedly entered the WSFS Bank in New Castle Saturday around 2:50 p.m. and presented a demand note written on a deposit slip. The teller could not decipher Love’s writing, so she handed it back and asked him to rewrite the note legibly.

Love fled the bank on foot empty-handed. He was arrested in the area by New Castle police and charged with second-degree attempted robbery.

“It’s a pretty funny story,” chuckled Sgt. Paul Shavack of the Delaware State Police. “The guy maybe wasn’t the brightest.”

Love is being held on a $2,000 cash bond.
